“Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…”
Perhaps for some, this is a bit extreme but it is always good to know what the weather is doing, even if from just an educational purpose. The weather and its temperamental nature can affect us all in different ways, not only with our moods but also practically excelling or impeding jobs outside, days out and general life events.
We can look to the weather channels and transmissions that are forecast in advance using advanced weather pattern systems and software run on supercomputers in line with general outlook climate prediction, this data that can change very quickly, as we all know the wind can blow one way then the other, days of all-weather patterns are experienced, sun, snow, sleet and high winds, all in one go!
It seems mainly that there is little way of knowing a days outcome unless we are in a midseason, even then it is hard to tell – one way of gaining some insight is with the use of a weather station, these micro machines are very advanced and give real time data feedback with logging and data analysis
There are many machines available all offering different but pretty much the same options, you can spend very little or a great deal on these machines, depending upon the complexity and overall features with expandability options that are important.
I have chosen to put the spotlight on the Oregon Scientific WMR86NX professional weather station, it is a multi-function unit that has a clear LCD display with backlight for nighttime or decreased lighting uses, it shows both the inside and outside temperatures and can support up to 3 remote sensors showing the weather forecast too. This does not use just the outside hard wired sensors including the rain fall meter, wind speed and direction with wind chill indicators but also utilises barometric, humidity and atmospheric real time data providing on screen constantly updating data display that is easy to read with an added bar graph showing averages.
There are more expensive weather stations out there but bang for buck this bad boy really excels and provides enough tools coupled with real-time data to give adequate feedback about as accurately as can be.
