Have you ever seen a $50,000 computer?

Was the last time you spend $400 on wheels for your car? Well think again if your hoping to own a Mac Pro that you can easily move around your office.  Apple has recently released their specs and pricing on its new top of the line desktop, the Mac Pro. The Mac Pro boosts features such as up to 28 CPU cores, up to 1.5 TB of RAM, and four GPUs.  The four GPUs combined can have up to 128G of memory. I would imagine that is more than any average desktop user has on their main computer. Another addon that you can purchase with your Mac Pro is an “Apple Afterburner.” Apple says of the Afterburner: “Afterburner is a hardware accelerator card built with an FPGA, or programmable ASIC. With over a million logic cells, it can process up to 6.3 billion pixels per second. And when installed in Mac Pro, the system is capable of handling up to 6 streams of 8K ProRes RAW or 23 streams of 4K ProRes RAW.”  Essentially this means that with the Afterburner you can work on up to 6 simultaneous streams of 8k video. If you are buying the Mac Pro you are more than likely a professional video editor where time spent editing, cutting, and compiling all take up your valuable time. That is the market where the Mac Pro hopes to succeed.

When pricing out a new Mac Pro, the most expensive upgrade is the 1.5TB of ram.  This ram upgrade only is $25,000. Oh did I mention it also requires a CPU upgrade to 24 cores at a cost of $6000?  Another hefty pricetag upgrade involves the GPUs, upgrading to, two Radeon Pro Vega II Duo with 2x32GB of HBM2 memory each will set you back another $10,800.  One upgrade that has caught the eye of many who are pricing out a Mac Pro is the $400 wheels add on. For $400 you will be able to slide your Mac Pro across your office with ease.  Bonus points for those who use it as a $50,000 curling stone. All in you are looking at $52,748 for a fully maxed out Mac Pro, and that is without Final Cut Pro. If you want that it is another $400.  On the bright side of a Mac purchase so large, if you use your Apple Card you will get 6% cash back, enough to buy a couple new iPhone 11 Pros!
